Chapter 22A – A Wave of Exes

Previous Chapter | Table of Contents | Next Chapter

Now before anyone gets upset this chapter was ginormous. At 9000 Chinese characters, it was about 4x the size of a normal chapter (around 2000-3000 characters). So I’ve split it into 2 releases, but each release is still approximately twice the length of normal chapter orz….

Chapter 22

The moment he saw Jeremy, a flash of regret came over Bai YueSheng. If only he wasn’t so vain back in the past and changed his face in every world, then would he be able to avoid this kind of awkward problem?

{T/N: So just to be clear, Bai YueSheng’s features do change to fit the persona of the world. For example in this one he has silver hair etc. but I think his facial features are basically the same, build is same. So he’s still recognizable. Remember on Earth he also toned down his appearance to make himself not as attractive lol.}

Ah Jiu grimly dealt this thoughts a blow, “It’s useless. They can still recognize you by  your thoughts, your heart, blood and even soul…”

Bai YueSheng said indignantly, “You still have time to gloat!”

Ah Jiu: “Okay then I’ll go.”

Bai YueSheng: “Go! If you go then we’re breaking up!”

“….” Ah Jiu paused for a second then said, “I’m so scared.”

“Bai Ah Jiu!” Bai YueSheng said angrily. “Wait and see, you’ll get dumped by that little loli! No! Wait until that little loli turns into a 30m tall big man and presses you down onto the ground!”

Ah Jiu: “Hehe.” Zero was naive like a little baby, what 30m tall man? Using his many years of experience, this was definitely a little loli girl, the kind that will cry with joy if you just give her a lollipop.

The above came from System Ah Jiu’s mistaken self confidence.

{T/N: So this is a semi spoiler but as this is a spinoff of “Need to Propose to 7 Men”, I think the author is assuming you know who Zero is. He is Chu MuYun’s system and he is very naive but definitely not female and not small in any way. Sorry Ah Jiu!

And how cute is it that Bai YueSheng calls Ah Jiu “Bai Ah Jiu”. A little segway but my surname is also Bai haha (‐^▽^‐)}

Back in reality, Bai YueSheng didn’t even dare to look at Jeremy. He could only choose to keep his gaze fixedly on Neil Maine. He felt like someone on trial awaiting  sentencing, whether he lived or died depended on if Judge Neil was satisfied or not.

Bai YueSheng really wasn’t confident. If you wanted him to scheme or fight, he didn’t have any doubt. After all he was able to defeat men in so many worlds. Anything that he could use logic to determine, then he didn’t have any problem. But if you put emotions into it then he was at a loss. Especially when he was required to use real emotions. What the hell was real emotion anyway? If I was willing to die for you, is that considered real emotion?

Back then when he was trying to help Neil get back his dragon core, he risked his life multiple times. This can be called “willing to die for you” right?! But Neil still didn’t believe it, what kind of unique method was he using to determine if Bai YueSheng liked him or not?

Bai YueSheng had never felt this nervous before. His heart was beating so fast it felt like it was going to jump out of his chest.

“Neil….” He repeated himself again. “Can you give me another chance? I want to…”

He didn’t get to finish his words when from behind him he felt a terrible power compressing the space. The feeling was too familiar. Even if Bai YueSheng didn’t turn around he knew what was happening.

Jeremy had the power to extract power from the dimension and use it to increase Toatie’s weapons system. The power could be converted to energy explosion that could annihilate a medium sized warship!

Jeremy wasn’t holding back at all! He was exerting his true power.

Neil embraced Bai YueSheng with one arm, pulling him towards his chest. He summoned a ball of light as bright as the sun into his palm. Under the bright light his eyes were very sharp and dangerous.

He asked Jeremy, “Who are you?”

Jeremy stared at the two embracing figures. His face was very dark. “Let go of him.”

Neil tightened his arm around Bai YueSheng.

I’m dead, it’s over, I’m dead. The words reverberated around Bai YueSheng’s head but he didn’t give it away on his face.

“Neil!’” Perhaps it was because it wasn’t his time just yet, Bai YueSheng had a sudden flash of inspiration. “That pair of green sunflowers hasn’t withered.”

Neil Maine looked at him startled. Specks of gold was reflected in his eyes, they were very beautiful but looked like it could shatter at any moment. He didn’t seem to want to believe it, his lips moved softly, “Ah Sheng…”

Bai YueSheng knew he had finally found a way. He immediately pressed on, “Neil, I really like you.”

At last…. A familiar feeling came over him. The scene in front of him distorted and a dizzying feeling overtook him. He couldn’t see anything, couldn’t hear anything. Other than his own existence, he couldn’t feel anything else.

Bai YueSheng’s heart landed. Finally he had left Sienn.

But he didn’t feel to good. He had satisfied Neil Maine but the method of this satisfaction came at the price of his own conscience.

Green sunflowers were a unique plant of the Sienn continent. It was a very, very small flower, similar in appearance a starry sky, but it was even more dream-like. If it could be planted on a large scale, the scene would be extremely beautiful.

But this flower was very delicate and stubborn. If there was another flower of the same kind growing next to it, it would stubbornly refuse to grow and immediately would wither. So it was almost impossible to plant a field of it.

But Neil had a garden of green sunflowers. No one knew how much effort and time he had spent in cultivating these stubborn little fellows to grow together but he managed to succeed. It was extremely beautiful.

Bai YueSheng had seen it once and had been shocked. “How did you do it? How did you manage to get these “rather die than be together” green sunflowers to grow together?”

At that time Neil Maine had only looked at him. He smiled and said, “To make the impossible possible, isn’t it interesting?”

After that he picked two and gave it to Bai YueSheng. “Do you want to try?”

Bai YueSheng was startled. Green sunflowers had a special meaning in the Sienn continent- lonely love.

The meaning was that the green sunflower was destined to be without a partner, to be eternally alone. That’s why to it, love was something lonely.

At that time his instinct told him that Neil was trying to subtly say something so Bai YueSheng had smiled and rejected it. “No I had better not, if I take it then I’m scared it will wither quickly.”

Neil didn’t retract his hand. Softly he said, “If it withers that’s good too.”

How long ago was this memory? Bai YueSheng didn’t think that he would remember it so clearly. Even Neil’s expression at the time, the clear and lonely expression in his eyes, he could remember everything.

To bring something like this up had double significance. One was the meaning of his words, the other was the pure fact that he still remembered it.

If he just said “I like you” then it seemed shallow but adding to it the significance of the details of the memory, then it became more realistic and believable.

Bai YueSheng’s conscience felt uneasy because he felt he had used this to give Neil hope but in the end it would only lead to more disappointment.

At least he managed to return to Earth.

Bai YueSheng lay down on his own soft bed and gave an exhale of relief.

It only only been one day but it was more tiring than a lifetime in another world.

“Ah Jiu?”

Bai YueSheng didn’t need to ask the question, Ah Jiu already knew. “As long as you leave, Jeremy won’t be able to stay in Sienn.”

So it was really like this. Bai YueSheng considered this. He thought this was a clue. A clue to help him unravel this whole predicament.

He was still thinking about it when his mobile phone rang.

Bai YueSheng looked at the screen and frowned.

The screen said: Dad.

As an ordinary person from earth, one of the prerequisites was to have a family. He couldn’t be like Sun WuKong and spring out of nothing, something extraordinary like that wouldn’t be fitting.

{T/N: Sun WuKong aka the Monkey King. Was born from a supernatural rock.}

Please read this at the original site: whiteskytranslations.wordpress.com

Bai YueSheng’s life in Earth was designated like this: one year after giving birth to him his mother died of illness and he was brought up by his father.

Both of these people had an important roles in his mission.

His dead mother was an important factor in relation to the Lucky S Physique. For example the Mrs. Sun who wanted to give Bai YueSheng an inheritance previously, she was Bai YueSheng’s mother’s half-sister from the same father. Previously there had also appeared his mother’s half-brother from the same mother, and also his mother’s grandmother’s illegitimate child, as well as mother’s grandfather’s daughter that didn’t have an heir…

Bai YueSheng was really curious how kind of important person his mother was. How come she had so many high-flying relatives? The most important thing was… why did all of them not have anyone to pass on their money to!

Of course Bai YueSheng had given up thinking about it long ago. The Lucky S Physique was not something that was scientific. Back then even the poor to death Jiang Ming even became the wealthy Third Master Jiang, what else wasn’t possible?

The existence of Bai YueSheng’s father was an important factor in this “ordinary life”. With his father present, Bai YueSheng was just an ordinary young man from a warm and normal home and because of a powerful setting, his father was the only one who wasn’t affected by his Lucky S Physique.

This meant that although everyone else near Bai YueSheng swiftly flew up into the sky, his father wasn’t the same. He had been in the same menial position in the company for ten years, all chances of promotion passed him by. Perhaps this could be seen as a bit sad but Father Bai’s was pretty content with his peaceful life. Every weekend when he was free he would cook a pot of fish soup and call Bai YueSheng to ask him to come home to eat.

Bai YueSheng was used to being an orphan for several lifetimes. He really didn’t know how to deal with this kind of situation, and he felt somewhat guilty towards Father Bai.

It wasn’t because he was destined to eventually leave but because…

Bai YueSheng took a deep breath and answered the phone. “Dad.”

A clear voice came from the phone. “Xiao Sheng, have you finished work? Come home for dinner ba, Dad made the fish soup you like.”

Bay YueSheng asked seriously, “Is it just the two of us?’

Father Bai paused a moment. “Ah this…. er…..”

Bai YueSheng sighed. “There’s someone else?”

Father Bai said in an embarrassed manner, “It’s a colleague from work.”

Bai YueSheng, “…..”

Father Bai’s personality was somewhat weak so when he sensed that Bai YueSheng wasn’t happy he said nervously, “Xiao Sheng don’t overthink it. It’s just my colleague.”

How could Bai YueSheng believe him?

If it was just his colleague then there was no point to specifically call Bai YueSheng home to meet them. He knew Bai YueSheng’s personality and that he didn’t like strangers, why would he specifically call him?

Obviously this person had a special significance to Father Bai. He wanted his son to meet them.

As for what kind of significance, the biggest possibility was – a stepmother.

Bai YueSheng’s guilt towards his father was because of this.

Stepmothers…. were toxic!

The Lucky S Physique didn’t work on Father Bai, but it wasn’t the same for the stepmother.

Thinking about what all the strange occurrences these past two years, Bai YueSheng felt extremely worried about Father Bai.

Father Bai knew that Bai YueSheng was worried about him so he said, “Er… Yang Rong, mn, she’s a co-worker from my department. She’s a very dedicated person, older than me by two years. Her family is very ordinary, she’s been divorced before, and has a son around your age…”

Bai YueSheng sighed and said, “Dad I’m coming home now. Talk more after I get there.”

He got off the bed, put on a cream jumper and left the house.

Father Bai lived in the suburbs, in the old house of the Bai faily. Bai YueSheng had rented an apartment in the city to make it easier for him to get to work. If he lived in the suburbs then it would be nightmare every day travelling on the subway.

An hours travel wasn’t much but it was enough for him to get picked up ten times, meet three to five benefactors, or accidentally find three 100% chance of winning lottery tickets….

It really made this “money is akin to dirt” existence hard to bear!

After getting of the bus, Bai YueSheng took out the phone number that had been secretly stuffed into his pocket, rolled it up into a ball and threw it into the trash. He pulled up the hood of his jumper and walked down the cold street before finally entering an old building.

From far away Bai YueSheng could smell the aroma of fish. Father Bai’s fish soup was excellent, the soup base was milky, the taste was extremely delicious. Just smelling it made his mouth water.

Bai YueSheng was a picky eater but he couldn’t fault Father Bai’s fish soup.

Even people that didn’t like seafood would fall in love with it.

Bai YueSheng took out his key and opened the door. A fluffy gold little creature immediately latched onto his leg.

Bai YueSheng picked it up and said, “If you get any fatter, who will want to hold you?”

His family’s cat TangTang lazily looked at him. Its expression said, if you don’t hold me then I won’t let you pat, hmph.

Bai YueSheng patted it on his head a few times but didn’t want to let go. This fat cat was really warm and made his frozen hand from outside very comfortable.

Still holding the cat he changed into slippers and went to the kitchen doorway. Inside was a busy man in an apron who turned around to look at him. “You’re back la.”

Father Bai was already forty eight years old but because of his lineage he was still very handsome. He had white skin and his body had been maintained very well. His personality was warm and gentle, it was no wonder so many people wanted to marry him.

Bai YueSheng softly said, “Dad.”

Father Bai put down the scoop and said, “There’s some snacks outside. If you’re hungry you can go eat first.”

Bai YueSHeng didn’t move.

Father Bai knew what he was thinking. After hesitating for a moment he said, “Xiao Sheng this time… this time it will definitely be different.”

Bai YueSheng face was expressionlessly. Definitely it would not be different.

These two years, Father Bai had met three “flowers”. One was Auntie Li from the dessert shop downstairs.

Bai YueSheng loved to eat sweets so Father Bai often brought him there. After going a few times he and Auntie Li began to have good feelings for each other. At their age it was good to have a partner. At first Bai YueSheng didn’t think much of it and even gave them his blessing.

But who knew after dating for only one month, Auntie Li’s ex-husband who she hadn’t heard from for many years suddenly reappeared. It turned that had struck it rich overseas and was determined to get back together with her.

One person was a small employee like Father Bai, the other was wealthy father of her children. Without hesitation Auntie Li picked the second one and left to go overseas.

Father Bai wasn’t too upset. He hadn’t invested too many feelings, at most it was above friendship but below the level of lovers. Also he was naturally kind, and was even happy for Auntie Li’s fortune.

But Bai YueSheng suddenly received a warning. This kind of low probability thing occurring definitely had something to do with his Lucky S Physique!

Just as he guessed, Father Bai’s second flower was even more extreme!

It happened after Bai YueSheng had moved out for two months. A widow moved in next door to Father Bai. She had a thirteen year old daughter. At first it was fine but who knew soon everything in her house began to break down. First it was the light bulb, then it was the refrigerator short circuiting and finally even the internet stopped working.

Father Bai had a good temper. He went to help multiple times and the two of them started to get familiar and have thoughts towards each other.

But then after this woman bought a lottery ticket and won 5 million dollars, all her investment stocks floated red, ven her daughter got into the best junior high, she straight away flew up to the heavens!

In a blink of an eye she became a rich woman. Of course she didn’t think this regular employee Father Bai was good enough for her anymore, so quickly moved away and cut off all contact.

This time Father Bai was really hurt. To be dumped for this kind of reason, it was really damaging for a man’s sense of pride.

At that time Bai YueSheng was really angry. He felt this woman was really blind to pay back a good man who had helped her in this way. If he wanted to he could raise one hand and make everything she had vanish! But after calming down, Bai YueSheng didn’t do anything like that. Because the main reason that Father Bai would meet this kind of woman was because of him.

The Lucky S Physique would have an effect on any person who was about to become Bai YueSheng’s stepmother, but the unchangeable setting that Father Bai must be ordinary would not let Father Bai share in this fortune. Hence the result was only one, that they would break up.

The third flower was was a straight up miracle. Like a character in a novel, Father Bai had picked up an unconscious woman by the side of the road, kindly took her home and was hooked by her. By the time Bai YueSheng heard about it Father Bai had already decided to marry her. Although the two of them hadn’t done anything, Father Bai had a very weak personality. After hearing this woman had nowhere to go, his compassion overflowed, and wanted to take responsibility for her.

Bai YueSheng didn’t say anything. With Ah Jiu’s help he knew exactly who this woman was. He didn’t bother waiting for the “Lucky S Physique” to take effect. He took out “Ji Le” and teleported to the Russian border. After destroying the mafia gang there, this “nowhere to go” scam artist woman suddenly found somewhere to go.

{T/N: I don’t know what “Ji Le” is, the meaning is “Bliss” or “Joy”. I think it’s some kind of machine that belongs to Bai YueSheng? Maybe from one of his worlds. Was this mentioned in one of the first 6 chapters? Can somebody remind me if it was.}

However unexpectedly after this was exposed, this woman suddenly developed a conscience and still wanted to be with Father Bai.

But after realizing who she was, Father Bai rejected her and immediately “broke up” with her. That woman continued to chase after him for many days but because he wouldn’t accept her, she had no choice but to leave.

Since Father Bai was an ordinary person it was better to let him be and let him have an ordinary life.

Actually the real reason for the rejection was Bai YueSheng. Father Bai thought about him and didn’t want him to go with him down this path of no return.

Although actually his son had already embarked on another path of no return called “The ex-boyfriends “ path….

After the experience with these three flowers, and hearing that his father had met someone again, how could Bai YueSheng not feel concerned?

Even though he knew he was a trap he couldn’t do anything except watch his father walk into the trap, wasn’t it heartbreaking?

Father Bai had turned back around to cook again. He said, “Previously it was just a coincidence but it definitely won’t happen again. Yang Rong is like a sister to me, we have known each other for more than ten years. Five years ago her husband died from a car crash, she’s been alone since then…..”

He blabbed on. Bai YueSheng stood nearby silently.

Being a good person was unrelated. If you won 5 million and didn’t go to get the prize that wasn’t called being good, that was called being stupid.

Ai, this kind of foolish person there was only him in the world, no one else!

Even if the husband was dead it didn’t matter. Back then that Auntie in the dessert shop also was rumored to have a dead husband. But as soon as Bai YueSheng appeared, he suddenly appeared as a rich man from overseas. It was only because before his life had been hard and didn’t want her to worry, that’s why he didn’t contact her. As soon as he got money he wanted to get back together with her right away.

What a pity, there was always a bellyful of excuses, don’t even need to mention it.

TangTang was patted by Bai YueSheng until it fell asleep but still he didn’t speak.

He would just have to wait and see – there wasn’t anything else to do.

How was he to know he would really see a problem!

Around six o’clock the doorbell rang. Father Bai poked out his head and said, “It should be Yang Rong. Xiao Sheng, go and open the door.”

  1. Thanks for the chapter! Bai YueSheng saying I like you to Neil in front of Jeremy… Not what I was expecting when it came to “the ex’s meet” drama but I’ll take it! (Along with the promise of more drama to come~) The green sunflower symbolism was sweet, it added some sincerity to YueSheng’s claim of being loyal to his lover of each world. Remembering small (?) things like that even after 300+ years, YueSheng is quite impressive! YueSheng’s dad is rather pitiful huh? Almost as bad as our favorite young master… speaking of which- “she’s been divorced before, and has a son around your age…” hm hmm~ author’s setting up some flags here~ Wow this chapter’s long, nice work! Looking forward to the payout for this setup~

  2. Poor Ah Jiu… There is no one innocent in that sister fic. I enjoyed reading Exes so much that I checked Propose out, and those characters are as impure as they can be.

I feel so bad for Neil. I guess he’s going to realize that YueSheng tricked him again since he disappeared right after charming him, and Jeremy will soon follow. Jeremy should have been able to hear everything YueSheng said, so his heart will probably be broken, too. Breaking two hearts at once, YueSheng is finally revealing more of his dark side to them. I wonder how cruel he will become. They already know he can be incredibly cold-hearted.

Since YueSheng was able to figure out how to escape from this world and carry out the means within only a short period of time (minutes at the least and hours at the most), it’s obvious he’s much more familiar and experienced with this sort of thing than they are. They outnumber him, but they’re still not his match at this point.

I wonder if Jeremy was able to stay in that world long enough to have a talk with Neil. It’d be interesting if they teamed up to put together the information that each of them has and figure out YueSheng’s nature and the rules he has to play by. Instead of fighting each other, they could unite and either make it so YueSheng can’t kick them out or else compete in winning his heart. If all the exes unite, then even YueSheng will have a hard time getting rid of them.

At least, he’s being as heartless as he can toward each of them and isn’t favoring anyone. Lol. I wonder how he’ll deal with whoever is behind the door.

      • Ahaha… I like dark and broken characters, so there’s no helping it. He values his mission more than any of his exes and will be cruel to them if that’s what he thinks he needs to do. I’m looking forward to how the exes respond to his coldbloodedness.

  3. Whitesky, is the reason why there is no comment section in part two of this chapter because there is one for this part? If so then, Bai YueSheng is terrible at being a father. All the child that he taught are all bear child.

  4. I can’t wait for Ah Jiu to find out who Zero is haha.

I feel really bad for Bai Yuesheng’s dad.

    Thanks for translating.
